I have been creating ceramics in the Arts and Crafts mode for 25 years.  All my ceramic art is hand made, fired at very high temperature, food and micro-wave safe, and in very limited numbers. Because everything is hand made (not thrown on a wheel), often bowls are not perfectly round--they have their own character!

I have been influenced over the years by the well known architects--Frank Lloyd Wright, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Greene brothers, all of whom not only designed fabulous homes but also designed all the interior furnishings.  My creations in clay are often similar in style to the utilitarian objects these men designed.

Because I am also a wood worker, I create wooden forms over or inside of which the clay is placed. The forms are quickly removed and quite linear shapes are thus created.  Bowls and plates, on the other hand, are formed over or inside plaster or bisque fired ceramic shapes.

Copper red and celadon are my most often used glazes.  And the use of real flowers and leaves often decorate various shapes. No, they aren't decals!!!

Much of my work is on display at Ruby's Clay Studio and Gallery, 552A Noe Street, San Francisco, CA 94114
